Reserved names

A reserved name is a brand that belongs to one organisation on VetEval. Once it is reserved, no other organisation can use those words in a model name, an organisation name, or a model's public address.

Most companies have several. You apply for all of them at once, in one application, with one link we can check them against. Each name is then decided on its own, so an application can come back with four reserved and one refused.

This exists because the leaderboard prints a model's name beside its score. A name nobody checked is a claim we would be making on another company's behalf, on a page the public reads as independent.

What being reserved does

• Nobody else can submit a model whose name uses those words. They are told which word caused it, so they can choose another name straight away.
• Nobody else can register an organisation using those words, because the organisation's own page carries its name beside its results.
• It applies to whole words, not to fragments. Reserving Halcyon does not stop somebody calling a model Halcyonic, and reserving two words does not reserve each of them on its own.
• Each name in your application is decided on its own. Four can be reserved and one refused, and the refused one says why.
• It does not affect anything already published. Names in place before a reservation stay as they are, and we look at those case by case.

What it does not do

Reserving a brand is not a trademark and gives no rights outside VetEval. It is a naming rule on one platform. We check that a claim is credible before approving it, and we are not a registry or an arbiter of who owns a name in the world.

How to apply

1. 1Open your organisation pageSign in, open Dashboard, then Organization. Reserved names is the panel below your public profile.
2. 2List your brands, one per lineAll of them together, written the way you use them. Capitals and punctuation do not matter: Halcyon-4.6 and halcyon 4.6 are the same words to us. The screen shows the list back to you before you send it, so you can see what we read.
3. 3Show us where to check itA link to a trademark record or to your own site is enough. Without one we have to work it out, which takes longer and may end in a refusal we could have avoided.
4. 4Wait for the decisionAn application reserves nothing while it waits. Until somebody approves a name, it stays available to everyone, including whoever else may be applying. Names are decided one at a time, so some may come back before others.

If we refuse

A refusal always says why, and you can see the reason on your organisation page. You can apply again with better evidence, and a refusal does not stop anybody else applying for the same words.

Giving one up

You can release any brand you hold at any time from the same screen, one at a time, so dropping a name does not touch the rest of your list. The words become available to everyone immediately. The record that you held them is kept.

If somebody else holds your brand

Use the contact form and tell us which words and which model or organisation. We will look at both claims. We do not tell you who holds a reservation, for the same reason we do not tell anyone else what you have submitted.
